Dr Rishi Singhal graduated from Maulana Azad Medical College in 2000 and started his surgical training in UK in 2002. Rishi didhis higher surgical training in Upper GI & Bariatric surgery in Birmingham. During this time Rishi also completed a formal research degree in oesophageal cancer. He was awarded fellowship of the Royal college of surgeons of England in 2012. He was subsequently appointed as a consultant bariatric & Upper GI surgeon at University hospital Birmingham in 2013.
During the last 8 years as a consultant, Rishi has pursued an academic course. He has published over 100 manuscripts with papers in Lancet, JAMA, Diabetes care and British Journal of Surgery. He has won numerous national and international prizes for research and is head of the bariatric research unit in Birmingham. He is also the associate editor of Journal of Bariatric surgery and a senior lecturer at the University of Birmingham.
Rishi’s main surgical interest lies within bariatric & metabolic surgery. He has performed over 2000 primary bariatric procedures and 250 revisional bariatric procedures. He is also the medical director of the largest private weight loss provider in UK. He has taken on some of the most challenging bariatric cases in UK, including operating on celebrities and patients upto 273 kg. His live operating sessions have been shown on BBC news and Channel 4.
